Funds Required to Complete New Finish Tower

Opportunities still exist for the naming rights of the building and internally for each of the three floors of the new Ragatta Management Centre and Finish Tower being built at the Mighty River Domain. Karapiro Rowing inc. would welcome approaches from any organisation who would consider this as a chance to have their name associated with the sport of rowing.

Don Rowlands Centre - Open Day

Waipa District Council is having an open day on Saturday 3rd July 2010 for the recently completed Water Sports Building named the Don Rowlands Centre at Lake Karapiro. The new centre is magnificent, and anyone who has not seen it should take this opportunity to look through it.

Rowing Waikato are searching for people to nominate to be elected for Board positions with Karapiro Rowing inc. This year sees two retirements, Murray Twining and Dave McCowan. Waikato RPC Trial Dates announced

Following the RPC Head coaches meeting held yesterday, details of the forth coming RPC trials for the Waikato RPC have been released. The trials are set to start on Saturday the 18th of September 2010 at the Waikato Rowing Club in Grantham Street, Hamilton. All the trial information can be downloaded here.

Don Rowlands Centre Opened

The New Community Centre built at the Mighty River Lake Karapiro Domain was today opened by His Excellency the Governer-General of New Zealand, The Honourable Sir Anand Satyanand GNZM,QSO and the Mayor of Waipa Mr Alan Livingstone. The centre has been named the Don Rowlands Centre in recognition of the lifetime of service that Don has given to the development of Lake Karapiro.

New Finish Tower for lake Karapiro

At its meeting on May 27, the Board of Karapiro Rowing resolved to sign a contract with Hawkins Construction Ltd to build a new three storey Finish tower at Lake Karapiro. The existing tower will be demolished tomorrow (2 June) and construction of the new tower will commence immediately and will be completed by the end of September. The new tower will have a slightly larger footprint, and be set 2.8 meters further back from the Lake . It will meet the specifications of FISA for the 2010 World Rowing Championships, and the needs of all future rowing regattas and events at Lake Karapiro.

New Maadi Program for Discussion

The National Executive of the NZSSRA met last week and has approved the addition of some events to the Maadi Cup program. The New events on the program are the Under 18 Novice Eight, Under 18 Lightweight Double Scull, Under 17 Pair and the Under 16 Single Scull. Rather than try to slot these events into the existing program, Andrew Carr-Smith (Executive Officer of the NZSSRA) has taken the opportunity to completely re-write the program. Saturday morning commenced at 9:30am with the usual workshop session ahead of the meeting to try and get some general agreement on remits ahead of the afternoon meeting. There were alot of remits to consider this year, many of them somewhat controversial. There was heated and passionate discussion around some of the issues.
