Funds Required to Complete New Finish Tower

The recently demolished finish tower on the finish line of the rowing course at Lake Karapiro in New Zealand, was built for the 1978 World Rowing Championships and had seen racing of the highest international standard for over 30 years. It sat at the heart of New Zealands most successful Olympic Sport.

As well as rowing, Waka ama, NZGP Hydroplanes, Triathlon, Swimming, Canoeing and Water skiinghad raced before that iconic building, which had provided an awesome viewing platform for both judges and event officials alike.

The new Regatta Management Centre and Finish Line Tower will meet the specifications of FISA (the World governing body of the sport of rowing) for the 2010 World Rowing Championships, and the needs of all future rowing regattas and events at The Mighty River Domain on Lake Karapiro.

Architecturally, it will be built in the same style as the recently completed 'Don Rowlands Centre' which is sited adjacent to it. The new building will have a slightly larger footprint than the old tower and will be consist of three floors instead of four in the old tower.

The total building cost will be in the vicinity of $650,000.00 and on top of this will be the cost of furnature and fittings to complete the project.

Whilst Karapiro Rowing has funds to put toward the project, they are very reliant on grants from funding agencies and the support of the rowing family and support from other users for the Mighty River Domain at Lake Karapiro.

Donations of any amount can be made to assist with the funding of the building and the furnishing of the tower and KRI are asking the rowing community to generously consider supporting this worthy cause.

A recognition board of all donors who contribute to the funding of the tower will be placed in the Ground Floor reception area.

Donations can be made to the New Zealand Rowing Foundation in order to support the funding of the tower. This will enable receiptd to be issued which can be used to obtain a tax credit as the donations are made to a charitable organisation.
